Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road snow clearing in 2021

Difficult conditions, wind-induced compressed snow – this year, the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road maintenance team had to face many challenges, however they have already reached the South Tyrolean border.

The annual Timmelsjoch snow clearing started on 19 April. Every day since then, our team have had to force their way through tons of snow, up to an altitude of 2,509 m, regardless of the wind and weather situation. This year, the situation was extremely tricky, as they had to cope with wind-induced compressed snow. Fortunately, our team is composed of skilled experts, who have gained profound experience in this field over the past decades, and they all know the Timmelsjoch like the back of their hands Despite the difficult conditions, the snow clearing team have already reached the Timmelsjoch on 2,509 m above sea level and as usual, they have created impressive snow walls.
Luckily, this year we had additional support provided by our new machine, which facilitated snow clearing to a large extent.



Like many of you, we are also looking forward to travelling again, and we can hardly wait to discover wonderful new or familiar places. The Timmelsjoch, which is one of the most beautiful high alpine roads, already awaits you and offers a spectacular scenery of snow walls. The current legal provisions seem to allow carefree travelling in summer.
At this point, we cannot announce the exact opening date. We hope to open the road in the end of May/beginning of June. We will of course inform you as to how things will proceed. Until then, Thomas Santer will provide us with spectacular snow-clearing pictures.
