41st Oetztal Cycling Marathon: August 28, 2022

Once again, one of the hardest cycling races in the Alps - the Oetztal Cycling Marathon - will take place on August 28. Therefore, the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road will be closed from 11:00 a.m. to 07:30 p.m..

The circuit, which includes four Alpine passes: Kuehtaisattel, Brenner Pass, Jaufen Pass and Timmelsjoch, takes you from Soelden to the South Tyrol and back. The route encompasses  a total distance of 227 km. All athletes will conquer an altitude of no less than 5,500 metres and slopes of 18%. The fastest cyclists only need about seven hours to cover this legendary distance.

On your bike! Show your cornering skills!

This year, 4,000 participants all have the dream to reach the finish in Soelden. Not only does the most demanding cycling marathon in the Alps literally offer breathtaking views between start and finish, but it also encompasses three different climate zones ranging from the Oetztal Glacier region via the Tyrolean low mountain range to the South Tyrolean vineyards. A dream, which demands quite  a lot from the brave participants. And finally, before that dream comes true, the contestants have to climb up one of the steepest hills of the entire route - the Timmelsjoch.

Push the limit

The last section of the course takes you from St. Leonhard, located at 750 m above sea level up to the Timmelsjoch at 2,474 m. On this exhausting section, which covers a distance of 29 km, the cyclists will climb slopes of 14% and an altitude of 1,967 m. In order to offer all athletes the best possible  conditions, the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road will be closed on 28 August from 11:00 a.m. to 07.30 p.m.. When the marathon has finished, extended opening hours will guarantee driving pleasure under the starry sky.
