The Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road is expected to open on 10 June!

In April, snow clearing started on the High Alpine Road between Gurgl and the Passeier Valley. In the meantime the road is free, but due to the avalanche situation it cannot be opened before 10 June.

Since 19 April, ten men and their heavy machinery have been clearing the layers of snow from the 34 km long Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road between Gurgl and Moos im Passeier. Meanwhile, the snow clearing teams from the North and the South Tyrol have already met. On Wednesday, the Avalanche Rescue Commission conducted an inspection to get a picture of the actual situation on 2,509 m above sea level.
Manfred Tschopfer, managing board director of the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road company explained: “In May, there was heavy rain and hardly any sun. In addition, the last winter was extraordinarily strong, and consequently, there is still too much snow in the upper areas of the High Alpine Road. The snow walls on some sections of the road still reach a hight of 12 m. Even though the road has been cleared, the current avalanche situation forces us to keep the road closed until 10 June. In the last 15 years the road has never been opened that late.”

New attraction: “View of the Dolomites”

For the first time, the Kirchenkarbahn cable car (two sections) will be operated in summer. The gondola ride starts directly at the Top Mountain Crosspoint on 2,175 m. From the Kirchenkarhuette mountain hut, located on 2,635 m, which will also be opened in summer for the first time, our guests can reach two newly designed viewing platforms in just a few minutes’ walk. The platforms offer a breathtaking panorama view of the Timmelsjoch, numerous peaks of over 3,000 metres and the Dolomites. Up to now, it has not been possible to see the Dolomites from the Oetztal Valley!

Motorcycle museum will open again in November

In January, the highest located motorcycle museum worldwide, which had been established right next to the Timmelsjoch toll-station in Hochgurgl (district of Imst) was completely destroyed by a devastating fire. 280 historic motorcycles and cars were burnt – for more information read: “Hochgurgl: Motorcycle Museum burnt down.” However, already a couple of weeks later, the owners began with the erection of a new showroom building. “Reconstruction works are in full swing, and we are proud to reopen a new museum with a floor space of 4,500 sqm on 18 November. This means that the floor space was extended by 2,000 sqm. The new motorcycle museum will be a unique motorcycle world of adventure with new and interactive attractions no one has ever seen before”, say the owners Attila and Alban Scheiber.

The Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road and the whole team look forward to you visit! We will announce the exact opening date as soon as possible. Until then – do not miss any news and updates and follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
