End of season tomorrow Friday 08:00 p.m.!
Tomorrow another beautiful day will await us on the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road; it will mark the end of the exceptional 50th anniversary season that was influenced by splendid weather. Tomorrow at 08:00 p.m. the North-South road link, located on 2,509 m, will be closed for this year because on Saturday winter will come and linger.
The weather gods were more than sympathetic to the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road as they made the best birthday present for the 50th anniversary: splendid weather through summer and autumn alike. The perfect conditions invited numerous tourists to travel to the end of the Oetz Valley and enjoy the stunning ride to the South, the natural driving experience and pleasure and the cultural attractions in form of five view-points alongside the mountain road that were set up in the past years. This year, due to the 50-year anniversary, a sixth station has been established right after the mountain pass on the South Tyrolean side: the “Timmel-Transit” museum is dedicated to the road workers on both sides of the Timmelsjoch and describes the hard road works over the years and the maintenance of the road in the high mountain region. “On the occasion of the jubilee, a large sum of money was invested into the safety of the High Alpine Road. Two million Euros, provided by the Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstrassen AG and the government of the South Tyrol, were used for road resurfacing, tunnel works, slope stabilisation works and the building of natural stone walls, “ says Mr. Manfred Tschopfer, CEO of Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstrassen AG, who is very happy about a perfect and accident-free season. Depending on the weather conditions, the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road will be opened again in the end of May or in the beginning of June 2019.
We would like to thank all our visitors and wish you a wonderful and accident-free winter!
