The onset of winter forces the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road to take a winter break on Monday 30.10.2023.

Get ready for the official Gurgl Ski Opening from 17th to 27th November 2022!

Opening hours, winter tyres – all facts you need to know in relation to your trip to the Timmelsjoch at this time of the year.

Therefore, the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road will be closed from 11:00 a.m. to 07:30 p.m.. When the marathon has finished, extended opening hours till 09.30 p.m.

Due to the snow forecast, the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road will be sent into hibernation on Monday, 01-11-21. The last crossing from both directions will be possible until Sunday, 31-10-21 until 8pm.

Daily from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Ötztal Cycling Marathon is considered as the most demanding in the Alps. Around 4,000 racing cyclists have set themselves the goal of reaching the finish line again this year. 

As of today, Friday, the B186 Ötztalstraße and thus the access to the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road from the north is open again to traffic without restriction.

The long wait is over – the Timmelsjoch High Alpine road has been open since the 10th of June. 

In April, snow clearing started on the High Alpine Road between Gurgl and the Passeier Valley. In the meantime the road is free, but due to the avalanche situation it cannot be opened before 10 June.

Difficult conditions, wind-induced compressed snow – this year, the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road maintenance team had to face many challenges, however they have already reached the South Tyrolean border.

A winter with little snow together with warm and sunny days during spring saved the  team of four, working for the road maintenance depot of the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road AG, a great deal of work. But instead of mid-May, the mountain pass, - also known as “the most beautiful scenic road in the Tyrol” - located in the back end of the Oetz Valley, cannot be opened for travellers to the south before 11 June 2020.

Here we go again! The start of the winter season in Gurgl is being celebrated properly from November 14 until November 24, 2019. 

True legends are being exhibited in the Top Mountain Crosspoint until autumn 2020. 

As soon as Mother Hulda comes back from her summer break, we are called to our winter sleep. 

Anyone who is interested in experiencing a day full of exciting impressions will find what they are looking for in the Ötztal valley.

The air is getting cooler and the leaves are changing to red and golden brown – it is finally autumn, also on the Timmelsjoch.

Tomorrow at 08:00 p.m. the North-South road link, located on 2,509 m, will be closed for this year because on Saturday winter will come and linger.  

Finally it's this time of the year: spring has arrived. That means we can finally start the annual snow clearance at Timmelsjoch high alpine road.

The Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road was closed for the winter on 3 November.

Because of the forthcoming winter the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road has been closed today.

One season has just ended, another one is yet to come! Now that the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road is closed, the popular ski area Obergurgl-Hochgurgl is about to open it’s ski slopes.
