Winter closure of Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road
We would like to thank all our visitors and look forward to seeing you again when the road is re-opened at the end of May 2018. The team of Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstraße AG wishes everyone a beautiful and safe winter season.“We look back to a long and successful season. Guests and local people alike appreciate the new discovery character of the High Alpine Road, with the interesting info points in their appealing architectural design and the new Top Mountain Crosspoint with the “highest” motorcycle museum in Europe”, says Managing Director Mag. Manfred Tschopfer, and he thanks all visitors who explored the route in the 2017 season on behalf of Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstrasse AG.
50th anniversary coming up in 2018
The 50th anniversary of the road connecting Austria and South Tyrol will be celebrated together with South Tyrol next year. After its official opening in 1959, the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road was for nine years only open on the North Tyrolean side, leading up to the top of the mountain pass. The steep southern ramp on the South Tyrol side was only completed and opened for traffic in 1968. The season traditionally begins at the end of May – weather permitting.
